Cookie Policy

Effective date: June 28, 2026

A note before the technical language

Hi. I'm Rebecca Scarberry. This page explains the cookies my site uses, what they do, and how to control them. The short version: I use cookies to make the site work, to understand which articles are being read, and to let you sign up for my email list without losing your place. I do not use cookies to track you across the internet.

— Rebecca

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer or phone when you visit. Cookies help websites remember information about your visit, which makes the experience smoother the next time you come back.

The cookies my site uses

Essential cookies

These are required for the site to work properly. They include cookies that:

  • Remember whether you have already dismissed a notice on the site
  • Keep your form entries during a session
  • Process checkout when you buy something
  • Maintain security on logged-in or protected pages

These cookies cannot be turned off because the site would not function correctly without them.

Analytics cookies

These help me understand which pages are being visited, where visitors are coming from, and how the site is performing. The analytics I use is privacy-respecting and does not identify you personally.

The information I see in analytics includes:

  • Total visitors and page views
  • Which articles are being read most
  • Approximate geographic region (city or country, not your address)
  • Type of device and browser
  • How visitors found my site

You can opt out of analytics tracking using your browser settings or by installing a tracker-blocking extension.

Email subscription cookies

When you sign up for my email list through Kit (my email service provider), Kit may set a cookie to track that you successfully signed up and to avoid showing you the signup form again on this device. This cookie does not track your activity outside my site.

Payment processing cookies

When you check out, my payment processors (Lemon Squeezy and Stripe) set cookies that are necessary to complete your transaction securely and prevent fraud. These cookies are managed by Lemon Squeezy and Stripe under their own privacy policies.

What I do not do with cookies

  • I do not use cookies to follow you around the internet
  • I do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about you
  • I do not use cookies to share your behavior with third-party advertisers
  • I do not run third-party advertising on my site
  • I do not use Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or similar tracking pixels

How to control cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • See the cookies stored on your device
  • Delete cookies individually or all at once
  • Block cookies from specific sites
  • Block all cookies (note: this may break parts of my site or other sites)

Here are the cookie settings pages for major browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy
  • Firefox: Preferences → Privacy & Security
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

For more granular control, you can install a browser extension such as Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, or Ghostery.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies on my site are set by third-party services I use to run the business. These include:

  • Lemon Squeezy and Stripe (payment processing)
  • Kit (email delivery)
  • Google Analytics or equivalent (site analytics)
  • My web host or platform (Lovable or Squarespace)

Each of these providers has its own cookie and privacy policy. I have linked to my Privacy Policy below, which explains who I share information with and why.

Do Not Track signals

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no consistent industry standard for how websites should respond to this signal. My site honors the spirit of Do Not Track by not engaging in cross-site tracking or behavioral advertising, regardless of whether you have this setting enabled.

Changes to this policy

I may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as my site evolves or as new tools are added. When I do, I will update the effective date at the top of this page.
